    Educational Qualifications

    Bachelor of Arts with History

    Master of Arts, with a specialization in Ancient Indian history

    PhD from the Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, awarded for the thesis on The Emergence of Monarchy in North India, in 1992.

    Teaching Experience

    Taught a course on the Social and Economic History of Early India for post-graduate students at the Centre for Historical Studies, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, as a research fellow, Jan-May 1983.

    Taught a course on Social Formations and Cultural Patterns in the Ancient and Medieval World for BA Honours students at Gargi College, University of Delhi, as a part-time lecturer, Sept-Dec 1983.

    Taught courses on Social Formations and Cultural Patterns in the Ancient and Medieval World, Ancient Indian History (both for BA Honours students) and Modern Indian History (for BA Pass Course students) at Satyawati Co-educational College, University of Delhi, as a permanent lecturer from December 1983. Promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1991 and to Reader in 1996.

    Taught courses on Ancient Civilizations (Mesopotamia) and Early Indian Social and Economic History for post-graduate students at the Department of History, University of Delhi, as part of the cooperative teaching programme, from 1993.

    Taught courses on Ancient Civilizations (Mesopotamia) and Epigraphy for post graduate students at the Dept of History, University of Delhi, as Reader, 1998.

    Taught courses on Ancient Society, and currently teaching courses on Social History of Early India, Households in Ancient Societies, Texts and Translations, for post-graduate students and BA programme students (School of Languages) at the Centre for Historical Studies, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University; also guiding MPhil and PhD students researching on aspects of social history including gender and caste, as well as on state formation, as an associate professor since 1999, and as a professor since 2007.
